Effect of Tetra Hydro Furan on Performance and Emission Characteristics of Ci Engine Fuelled With Methyl Ester of Jatropha

چکیده
A number of studies currently focus on the renewable fuels to reduce the reliance on petroleum fuels. Biofuels such as biodiesel and bioethanol have been studied and tested in many countries including India. This paper is aimed to investigate the performance and emission characteristics of a direct injection (DI) diesel engine when fuelled with methyl ester of Jatropha oil (MEJO). The ignition improver tetra hydro furan(THF) is added to methyl ester of Jatropha oil to examine the performance of the diesel engine. The experimental results shows that the maximum brake thermal efficiency was obtained with 2% THF blended with MEJO when compared with pure MEJO. Among the THF blends, the minimum brake specific fuel consumption of 0.339 was observed with 2% THF. The lowest carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons(HC) and oxides of nitrogen(NOx) emissions are recorded with 2% THF blend. The smoke density of 2% THF with MEJO was reduced by 14.3% when compared with diesel. Hence ,the 2% THF blended with MEJO could improve the performance and reduce the emissions of the diesel engine. Keywords-Biodiesel, Diesel Engine, Performance, Emissions.

Comparative study of Performance and Emission Characteristics of a Diesel Engine Fueled by Castor and jatropha methyl Ester with the help of T Test
Biofuels are playing important role in recent decades as substitutes for petro diesel. Biodiesel derived from vegetable oils are found to give comparable performance and emission characteristics. In this paper a comparative study has been done between two fuels combinations i.e. jatropha and castor. The biodiesel was prepared from neat oils and blends of biodiesel (up till 20%) were prepared...
متن کاملEffect of Compression Ratio on Emission of CI Engine using Neat Karanja Oil and Karanja Oil Methyl Ester Blends
The standard design parameters of a compression ignition engine fail to give specified performance with strait vegetable oil (SVO) from different origins. This study is performed to find the effect of compression ratio on emission characteristics such as carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbon (HC), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and smoke opacity with all the tested fuels in a single cy...

Graphene is a monolayer carbon atoms discovered in the recent past which has inspired researchers in a wide range of applications. It has a surface area as high as 2630 m2/g and thermal conductivity value of 3000 W/mK-1 at room temperature. It is chemically the most reactive form of carbon with one carbon atom exposed to reaction from each side. Stable dispersion of graphene was achieved using ...
متن کاملComparative analysis of jatropha and karanja-based biodiesel properties, performance and exhaust emission characteristics in an unmodified diesel engine
An ever-increasing drift of energy consumption, unequal geographical distribution of natural wealth and the quest for low carbon fuel for a cleaner environment are sparking the production and use of biodiesels in many countries around the globe. In this work, jatropha and karanja biodiesels were produced from the respective crude vegetable oils through transesterification, and the different phy...
متن کاملEffect of Injection Characteristics on Emissions and Combustion of a Gasoline Fuelled Partially-premixed Compression Ignition Engine
Conventional compression ignition (CI) engines are known for their high thermal efficiency compared to spark ignited (SI) engines. Gasoline because of its higher ignition delay has much lower soot emission in comparison with diesel fuel. Using double injection strategy reduces the maximum heat release rate that leads to NOx emission reduction. In this paper, a numerical study of a gasoline fuel...
